Emergency contraception (EC) is not advised for use as a regular method of birth control, but if you have had unprotected sex for any reason, emergency contraception can help prevent an unplanned pregnancy if used as soon as possible.
There are EC methods that are effective for up to 5 days after unprotected sex. Some EC pills are available from a pharmacist without a prescription; others are available from your doctor. Your doctor can also insert an IUD for emergency and ongoing birth control. Read more in the section on Emergency Contraception.Read More
